Tax on Pop - Response

In our normal world that we live in today, continously, people are starting to become health conscious and start to worry so much that they'd do anything to maintain a healthy life, as well to live better. Health consciousness may seem too healthy, and may make people think that they'd have to eat vegetables every single day but its not true. Health consciousness is when someone is aware of the foods that they are consuming and the multiple effects they have on the body. Pop/Coke is one of the most largest liquids that affect the rate of obesity in Canada today. Many commercials and other sources of media that contain information always prove that these simple unhealthy choices can add up. Variety of people in our nation today continue to deny and not believe that Pop can increase the weight once drank continously. People who continue to drink pop, are just hurting themselves as well, they are ultimately unaware or even uncaring of their future. People do not seem to realize that Pop is a liquid that can damage the body, it may taste good to some people, but the after product that effects the body is dangerous. That just leaves people to decide for themselves, whether Pop in their opinion is good or bad..

I believe that the New York Health Department’s attempts to help people make healthy choices just wonderfully amazing. I think the video that was included in the post was an excellent example on what Pop would do once consumed. I think its a clever way to convince people that its unhealthy, and that they shouldn't drink it no more. People never really come to think of the consequences of their choices of food. As I watched the movie Super Size Me, i thought it was horrible, disturbing, disgusting, and just plain awful. That movie seemed like the guy was torturing himself just by consuming all the junk into his body. He knew it was not healthy, he wanted to try it which was actually really stupid. Furthermore, eating MacDonald’s once a month will not harm you, but if you have it once a day, then definitely there will be devastating health effects that would lead you to dissapointing news. The movie Super Size Me was awful, but it was a great thing to do to show people what JUNK everyday would TRULY DO to your body. Sometimes scare campaigns are quite necessary because people need to see and need to BELIEVE with their own eyes the actual possibilities and not just hear the facts in order to create a change based on emotional response.

In my personal opinion, the video posted did not make me want to become a healthier person. Because, I myself, already am health concious. I watch what I eat all the time, and try to maintain a healthy body. Personally, I HATE POP, it really is disgusting, it makes me gag at times. I avoid pop for the most part, and stick to water and juices as well as milk. Overall, the video made me feel awkward and at the same time dissapointed. It was a disturbing reminder that many people are not health conscious, and that a video like that is needed to motivate people to eat healthy. People need to learn by themselves, they need to force themselves and notify themselves to eat healthy everyday, they need to focus and take care of their own bodies in order to live a good life. They can't just depend on a video to convince them. In my opinion I think that the growing rates of obesity in our nation is a huge problem due to many not taking things seriously. Obesity leads to so many other health problems and complications later in life. Obese people should start to question themselves, to further believe and understand the true meaning of what being healthy is. Water leads to a more healthier long life, while coke leads to nonhealthy less life.

I really do hope that the tax does go through so that people can start to know what to do, and I hope that Canada feels convinced enough as well and adds it’s own taxes to pop.15 cents is not enough, I think they should add in more so that coke wouldn't be worth it anymore. If it does go through, I would not buy it at all, because as I said i barely drink Pop, which increases my chances of preventing obesity. People need to be able to maintain and make their own decisions. Seriously, I think they should go on and care to try to help people make healthier choices, because if they don't they would be having to suffer the consequences which would most likely defeat them. People need to stand up and do whats right, rather than just sit down, and gain more weight.

Photo Manipulation! - Response

Ever since the program Photoshop was invented many people have used it wisely, in there own unique ways. Photoshop is one of many Adobe’s amazing products that have been made. Due to the general use of embossing, sharpening, basically overall editing of the images, it has lately become the world-wides source for photo manipulation programs. Photoshop can be geniusly used to create gorgeous yet unique pieces of beauty as well to touch up photographs and to ensure great end looks. Not only is Photoshop used for beneficial purposes, it is also used for typically wrong reasons. Many magazines, commercials, advertisements all over the world mainly discover and continue to use Photoshop to drastically go overboard with the images of their models in order to complete and satisfy themselves. All they want and all they need is to ensure that the model's body can be seen on the cover looking flawless.

I am starting to truly understand and believe that Photoshopped images that are being produced are disgusting. Although first glance, already you can tell it is beautiful, but as you look take a closer inspection you can immediately distinguish the true face that lies under that perfect but fake looking skin. Under the great looks lies the truth; the perfect teeth, the perfect makeup, the perfect figure, the overall perfect appearance is all not true, it is all the opposite, plain gross. All of the work to make the model's 'look' better was finished through the use of Photoshop.

On cover magazines, lies the perfect beauty that all men are in need to die for. But what that beauty is, is definitely not human, it is a barbie doll. Cover models, are never real, they are all just an ordinary person that looks normal, and appeals to people in a normal way. For example, with Ralph Lauren's pictures, once you see them The you can immediately tell that its just so revolting, and its just not NORMAL at all! the before and after pictures are just plain different. The image of a normal human with already slim shape and already attractive look had been taken and manipulated into something that is considered ugly, and definitely not normal. For the most part, what is most shocking about this image is that it is an image that can easily be told it had been photoshopped. Photoshop is only to create and edit normal pictures but not for the purpose of making humans, non-humans.

In this post, there are many pictures shown, that truly identify the true meaning of 'Photo Manipulation' For example, there is a picture of Jessica Simpson with already a nice figure and shape, but when she had been photoshopped she had been turned into a non-healthy looking person, that completely looks un-normal. Photoshop modified her figure too much, as you can see with her waist, her hair, her overall entire face. Same with the images that follow up right after it. It's the same story over again.

In my opinion yes it does bother me a lot that companies often over-edit and continue to cross the line. Why? because their basically making their models or magazine idols look fake. It's not right, I mean why can't the companies just use normal people, and do whatever with them to make them look good, OTHER THAN USING PHOTOSHOP AND MAKING THEM LOOK FAKE, one possible solution is to use healthy fit models for advertising because some people that are bothered would then believe in the product. Many insecure people usually continue to compare themselves to what they see in magazines, which often leads those individuals into copying them, and wanting to look that way, which really is a fake body, that is Definitely not a healthy one. Also, companies continue to be unfair mainly to make people feel bad, or even guilty over the way they look.

In my opinion I believe that the trend will become more prevailing, however, I don't believe that the media will change the way it is right away. The trend of make-up use only, and no photoshop I think would not stick at all, because companies tend to be greedy with their overall products, and want everything to be perfect and intriguing. I believe companies will continue to use photoshop non-stop till they get whatevers right and whatever benefits them, cause really they wouldn't use just make-up to publish their product, they need to change the whole body figure to addict the audience into believing that the product being made is wonderful. I indeed am astonished and especially concerned about the people whose self-esteem's have been madly damaged by these images, and will be scarred dangerously for many years.

My opinion on the idea of magazines making runways for normal people; old, young, tall, short, all shapes and sizes is very attracting. I think it's great because it shows that not only one shape and size or look can fit into something but everyone can. It makes a really great point, and I think it's greatly appealing. The companies need to think of everyone not just someone, because they need to spread the meaning of true looks by showing that all body types are great, and nothing is needed for change. I feel absoulutely great, and amazed whenever I see a non-glammed magazine. Even though the models may not look completely perfect, or flawless, or gorgeous, they're still real, which states true beauty. Now that's a true thought.

The Changing Face of Video Games - Response

As kids continue to grow and age up, game producers continue to create and introduce new games to the society. Automatically, once a game is made it is directly shown either on buses, streetcars, bus stops, magazines, commercials, etc, just like movies. People easily get intrigued by the look of the game, and right away wonder if they should try it out. This is how game producers accumulate high ratings on the games they produced. I really believe that games have evolved continuously to the point where it's beneficial to not only me but as well for others. Games nowadays have continued to grow and boost sufficiently on the quality, the attributes, and the overall characteristics which allows many people to desperately want the need to try the game out. Every generation has a certain like and dislike in games, teenagers tend to play games more with action and fighting while on the other hand younger kids like to play cartoon-like/jolly games to satisfy their needs. Games have gotten better and better each decade and continue to attract teenagers, kids, adults, etc. Game producers continue to create games that are interesting and highly addicting to make people want to play the game more and more, and to pass it on to friends, and promote the game by saying its amazing. With the new game genres being made I believe that they have evolved greatly into something new because its obviously a whole different thing, the game genres from the past were boring, and not as interesting as the ones being made today. They are whole different games, which makes them very new. Overall, I believe that games being made today have evolved to the certain level that it is just very beneficial to not only me but to people all around the world.

Social Awareness Contradiction - Response

1) How do you feel about the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty? Does it make you feel better about yourself or do you see it as just another marketing grab?

As a guy, i believe the Dove campaign is a great campaign that would defintely appeal and support women. I can see it helping women nowadays, it can really help them feel better. Some women always seem to feel bad about themselves when really its just themselves not believing on what life has to support them. The Dove campaign is doing a really good job taking control and believing there is a solution to helping all the women that feel bad about their personal appearances out. Dove campaign helps people realize that there is always a way to help people feel good about not only themselves, but the way they feel outside, their personal looks. They try to promote and convince people to not change their looks, but to do something positive that will benefit themselves. I think that the Dove campaign should continue to do it's thing, to overall help boosten up many women's self-esteem's, as well to help increase the pride all women have.

2) How do you feel about the Axe Effect Campaign? Does it make you laugh hysterically or roll your eyes in disgust? Explain.

What do I feel about Axe Effect Campaigns? ... hmmm, I feel really bad about it. To tell the truth, it's the most awful fragrance i would ever use. It not only smells bad, it demolishes people's minds. Many girls nowadays tend to get disgusted whenever a GUY sprays on axe. Now that makes me laugh! Axe's fragrance cannot smell good at all, it does not and surely will not help a man smell good. Overall, I think it just makes whoever uses it smell even worse.. It has the most strongest smell out of all the fragrances, and can possibly make someone faint. I don't understand why this commercial would lead men into believing women would become attracted to it, when really they do not even know. Men, think it smells good, but they don't know how bad or good it smells to others. Really, it just makes me not only laugh, but yes! roll my eyes in disgust. I can never use Axe again..

3) Do you think a "parent" company has some ethical responsibilty to ensure that all of its different sectors uphold the same sort of beliefs and values? Why or why not?

Yes, i do believe a parent company has some ethical responsibilty mainly for ensuring that all of their different sources uphold the same sort of beliefs and values. A parent company should help guide a child or their child with a positive attitude because what children see is what they'll copy. Kids, always and usually get influenced by the shows, and commercials they watch on television mainly because commercial campaigns always try to make their commercials interesting to intrigue the audience, which would definitely lead them into copying. Parents, need to take an eye and look carefully on what their children's are watching so they can make a stop and convince them to not believing into stupid stuff, cause usually commercials that are produced are not true. Which will overall make children do the wrong things and make bad decisions.

"Ad's from the Past" - Response

It has all been stated. Ad's that had been produced from the past, in my opinion are surely weird. First off, one of the ad's exposed had explained clearly.. eat continously and buy tape worms to banish the fat gained. I think that that's just pretty shocking, I mean, why can't you just eat healthy and not have to buy any drug or fat banishing products. Thats just insane, I think that ad is a joke for sure.

The next ad had shown a man inhaling a "tipalet," and at the same time blowing the smoke in a womans face. I think that that was trying to say how tipalet's are great smelling, and that they addict a woman into liking it. I believe that's just wrong, i mean okay.. i think they may have made better smoking products back then, but its just advertising the product wrongly. Who cares if it smells great, there can be huge side effects. If you were to relate a "tipalet" and a "cigarette" it would'nt really make a difference at all other than the smell of both. Everyone know's cigarettes these days are bad smelling, and people around try to avoid the smell. This just increases health hazards. People may obtain cancer or some sickness from these things. Tipalets may be decent smelling, but at the same time it can distract you from focusing on your health. That also is a fail.

The following ad is the same exact thing. They're trying to advertise the Camel Cigarettes. And they have used a "Doctor" to advertise the product. Its just like these days, people use Celebrities to advertise certain products like clothes, as well any other product. Just because a Doctor is holding the product and is advertising it, it surely doesn't mean anyone else should listen. I mean it really doesn't matter if its good or not. The advertisement states, "The Doctors choice is America's choice," That is just a joke, i mean seriously. Just cause One Doctor decides to smoke something, the whole entire country has to follow. I think that's just pathetic. People need to open there eyes sometimes, and listen to their choice, listen deeply. First off, its bad for your health, i don't even know why a DOCTOR is even advertising that product, that is just a really joke way of advertising something. That advertisement is extremely a funny funny joke.

The final ad had shown a family all happy, with the saying "They're happy because they eat LARD." That is just soo wrong. LARD? i mean come on! that is the non-healthiest fat in the whole world. How on earth can that family be happy. Yet in the picture they are really thin. Where were they going with this? how can people be so useless. . . I guess they weren't thinking smart enough. They didn't realize thoroughly on what they were trying to do.. I don't even know if people even had good minds. This ad is also a joke.

Overall, just by glancing at these ad's you can easily assume that America was just falling off the boat back then. People back then didn't even care about age, look, height, weight.. nothing! whatever age you were, they would probably let you do whatever you'd like. People did not know what they were doing back then, I assume. They were all plain foolish. They just thought everyone was leader and decided to follow them. People back then weren't as "bright" as they were as of right now...

Google "Street View" Response

It has been said, that Google had recently made something called, Google Street View. It was kinda fascinating to see, everyone was so eager to come check it out, so i decided to try it to. When i typed in my address, it somehow didn't allow it, which was actually kinda great for me. I was happy my house didn't show. In my opinion i think that this "Street View" thing is absoulutely bad, I don't really like it because.. first of all it's kind of stalker-ish, people can easily find your home, which is quite scary. Second of all, people may identify other peoples faces in the pictures being shown. It is definitely not a good thing.

I believe that Google should continue to blurr peoples faces out permanently to prevent other people from looking. Many people may use software to sharpen the images, and do whatever to the pictures, which i really think is Wrong. Same with license plates, no one should have the right to do something mastermind. It doesn't help at all to keep things private. Because, someone can easily type in an address and they can simply go to it. If they're going to keep this street view thingy, they should do what ever's best to prevent bad causes. Overall, i disagree with it. It's way too stalker-ish.
